Today begins a mostly bland and liquid diet of congee sprinkled with self pity. No matter what food connoisseurs or seasoned locals tell you, avoid the raw stuff — even in Japan! Luckily, I made it out the door and down the street to the futuristic ION Orchard mall for some shopping, while Ryan got a fancy haircut and even fancier shaved ice.
Day 9: Thursday, October 18, 2012
Heavily medicated, I dodged through the flash storms and found shelter at the Marina Bay Sands mall, via the convenient subway system. Some more shopping ensued (though I came back empty-handed) while Ryan made a new friend at the Black Jack table. Having heard rumors of the legendary rooftop infinity pool, we tried to navigate through the posh hotel, only to realize soon enough that we weren’t going to get anywhere without a room key.
By the time we got outside to the Gardens by the Bay, the sun had come out (and so had all the centipedes, tourists, and sunbrellas)! Rain or sauna, the garden views were breathtaking, with nature and structure juxtaposing one another (yet united in their biomimetic forms).
That night, I had a 102 degree fever and a flight the next day. #thejoysoftraveling
